Admission Criteria1

Criteria Instructions for Completion
1. Unencumbered RN license For any state and eligibility for licensure in LA.
2. 1 year RN experience Must have been in the acute care setting within five years of applying for admission as evidenced by resume and letter(s) of recommendation. Upload license(s) to the NursingCAS application.
3. Current BLS & ACLS certification Must be via American Heart Association for healthcare providers. May upload within NursingCAS application.
4. GPA > 3.0 On a 4.0 scale. For all undergraduate or graduate course work.
5. GRE score > 300; writing score > 3.0 Must have been completed in the last 5 years. Must have a 300 or better when combining the verbal and quantitative scores on the 130-170 score scale. Scores may be uploaded within the NursingCAS application.
6. TOEFL > 550 (paper-based) or 79 (Internet) The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for all applicants who have English as a second language or who are not graduates of programs in the United States. Input scores into the NursingCAS application.
7. 3 Letters of Recommendation In support of your Graduate Admission Application. Must be from (1) a peer, (2) a Nurse Practitioner, & (3) a nursing Supervisor. Reference information requested within the NursingCAS application.
8. Official transcripts+ Must be from a regionally accredited college or university documenting the award of a BSN or BSN equivalent*. All previous undergraduate and graduate official transcripts must be submitted. All nursing course credit earned must be from a specialized nursing accredited program. Official transcripts must be submitted to the School of Nursing Office of Student Services/Affairs. 9. Complete application per NursingCAS by deadline. Go to www.nursingcas.org and search for LSUHNO School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA. If in need of technology support, please contact the NursingCAS support staff by email nursingcasinfo@nursingcas.org or phone 617-612-2880.
10. Complete interview Face to face interview that will be scheduled upon the completion of the application after the deadline. Applicants will be notified by email.

1Applicants with a Masterís degree in nursing seeking a Nurse Practitioner concentration will have GRE requirement waived.

+All transcripts from programs outside of the U.S. must be evaluated by an accredited credentialing evaluation service. LSUHNO School of Nursing recommends the following resources:
