Nurse Practitioner (NP) Concentration

Welcome to the home page of the only Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program preparing Nurse Practitioners (NPs) within an academic health center and a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence for Nursing Education in Louisiana!

Centered in the downtown medical district of New Orleans, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs, NP concentration will immerse you into a culture of science and inquiry that is unique to the nursing profession. The academic experience is centered by a united mission among faculty aim to develop each student into a practice expert who is ready for independent practice.

Our curriculum focuses on developing higher-order-thinking skills of analysis, evaluation, and synthesis; excellent written and verbal communication skills worthy of scholarly dissemination; and procedural skill competence including basic imaging interpretation, minor surgical skills (e.g. basic suturing, incision and drainage, etc.), and point-of-care ultrasound applications useful in primary and acute care settings.

Our students enjoy close relationships with NP Faculty Advisors and blended (“hybrid”) classroom and online learning experiences. Clinical learning experiences are designed and assigned by NP faculty to support each student’s development.
