Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

The LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing has developed a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner concentration to prepare DNP graduates for evidence-based psychiatric mental health nursing practice with culturally diverse populations across the lifespan in a variety of mental health care settings.

The post-baccalaureate program of study, consists of 94 credit hours, will prepare graduates to attain certification as psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners.

The mission of the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program is to:

  1. Prepare graduates for evidence-based psychiatric mental health nursing practice with culturally diverse populations across the lifespan in a variety of mental health care settings.
  2. Maintain a quality program that meets national accreditation and state regularity standards.
  3. Prepare graduates to attain certification as psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners.
  4. Promote development in leadership and scholarship through mentoring and professional role socialization.
