Admission
Criteria
Members of the Admissions Progression and Graduation
Committee admit two classes each year, one in the Fall and one in the
Spring.
- Admission to the baccalaureate
program of study is by competitive
application.
- An applicant must complete 34 hours of required pre-nursing courses. Of the 34 required prerequisites, the following 16 hours of prerequisites must be completed prior to application and appear on the applicant’s transcript. The GPA calculated on these courses must be at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale in order to be eligible for admission:
- College algebra (3 hours)
- English composition I (3 hours)
- General biology and lab (4 hours)
- General chemistry (3 hours)
- General psychology (3 hours)
The remaining prerequisite courses may be in progress at the time the application is submitted. Applicants for fall admission must have all prerequisites completed by the end of the prior spring semester.
An applicant must complete 34 hours of the required pre-nursing courses, or be enrolled in the final semester of pre nursing classes before applying to the program. Applicants must have a completed minimum GPA of 2.8 on 4.0 scale on all pre-nursing courses.
- A grade of C or better must be achieved in all pre-nursing courses. If a student receives a D or F in a pre-nursing course, it may be repeated one (1) time only. Applicants who have obtained a D or F in a prerequisite course cannot apply until the prerequisite course is successfully completed. Failure of any pre-nursing course twice makes an applicant ineligible for admission.
- Preference will be given to
an applicant who completes
pre-nursing courses in
the LSU System.
- Meeting the minimum academic requirements DOES NOT guarantee admission to the School of Nursing.
- As part of the admission process, all applicants to the BSN program are required to take the HESI Admission Assessment exam A² from Evolve Testing & Remediation. (More Info)
- A student who requests admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program of study is classified for screening in one of the following ways:
- Traditional Student (No previous formal course work in a nursing program leading to the licensing examination to become a registered nurse, (R.N.).
- Transfer Nursing Student (Previous work complete in another baccalaureate nursing program).
- Applicants must complete a formal typed written statement addressing the criteria listed in the application Information section found on the Application Information page.
