A Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) is a
Registered Nurse with broad clinical
nursing practice and training in the
legal field.
What Does a LNC
Do?
A LNC is trained in the health care
field. Below is a non-inclusive list
of some of the functions of a LNC.
- Reviews and analyzes medical records.
- Prepares chronology of events and
summaries of patients’ medical histories.
- Researches damages and injuries.
- Identifies and locates standards
of care.
- Identifies the (4) four elements
of negligence – duty, breach, proximate
cause and damages.
- Locates and works with expert witnesses.
- Locates and provides legal and medical
research pertinent to the case.
- Assists in preparation of depositions,
discovery, and trial.
- Attends medical review panels, depositions,
trials, mediations, and arbitrations.
- Drafts correspondence and legal
documents.
- Assists with creating settlement
packages and demand.
