What is a Legal Nurse Consultant?
A Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) is a Registered Nurse with broad clinical nursing practice and training in the legal field.

What Does a LNC Do?
A LNC is trained in the health care field. Below is a non-inclusive list of some of the functions of a LNC.

  1. Reviews and analyzes medical records.
  2. Prepares chronology of events and summaries of patients’ medical histories.
  3. Researches damages and injuries.
  4. Identifies and locates standards of care.
  5. Identifies the (4) four elements of negligence – duty, breach, proximate cause and damages.
  6. Locates and works with expert witnesses.
  7. Locates and provides legal and medical research pertinent to the case.
  8. Assists in preparation of depositions, discovery, and trial.
  9. Attends medical review panels, depositions, trials, mediations, and arbitrations.
  10. Drafts correspondence and legal documents.
  11. Assists with creating settlement packages and demand.
