Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing, Continuing Education and Nurse Attorney Institute, LLC Presents: Nursing Law and Ethics Update 2009 Date: Thursday, November 12, 2009 Location: Tulane Medical Center 1415 Tulane Ave., New Orleans, LA Room 350, 3rd Floor, Education Resource Center, Elks Building Parking: Validated parking in Saratoga Garage – Entrance on South Saratoga between Cleveland and Canal Streets, Access the Elks Building classroom from the 2nd floor of the garage. Warlick, BSN, RN, JD of Nurse Attorney Institute, LLC 5 Contact Hours 8:30 am - Registration 9:00 - 3:30 pm - Program Target Audience: All registered nurses and legal nurse consultants. Other healthcare providers are welcome. Topics covered include: current legal issues and hot cases affecting nursing practice, ethical dilemmas and how to resolve them, legal pitfalls of documentation, current case law involving nursing and medical negligence, common areas of  negligence (medication errors, failure to properly monitor, failure to use good nursing judgment in nursing practice, nursing home cases), cases involving intentional and quasi intentional torts (assault, battery, medical battery, false imprisonment, defamation, breach of confidentiality, breach of privacy), and how to keep your license and avoid disciplinary actions. LSUHSC School of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. LSBN (Provider #6). Certificates will be distributed upon the completion of the program. Participants must be present for at least 90% of the program in order to receive contact hours.
