  • What are the requirements to plug into the LSUHSC network?

Nursing students who elect to connect their computers to any port in the LSUHSC network are responsible for maintaining the following requirements:

    1. The computer configuration must be compatible with the LSUHSC network.
    2. The computer must be free of all viruses. If a computer has a virus, the student is responsible for removing the virus.
    3. The computer must be running reliable anti-virus software that is updated regularly.
    4. The computer must be kept up to date with all of the security patches from Microsoft. The student is responsible for making sure that the security patches are installed.
    5. Within the School of Nursing the computer will be attached to the network by means of a patch cord. The School of Nursing does not support wireless networking at this time.

    1. Right-click on the VirusScan taskbar icon (next to the clock) and choose "Update Now..." from the menu.

    3. After any available updates have completed the installation process, click the "Close" button.

  • How do I update my computer with the latest Microsoft security patches?

    1. Open Internet Explorer and go to "Tools" and "Windows Update". If you do not use Internet Explorer, go to the following web address: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

    2. After you have reached the site, click on "Express Install".

    3. Your computer will then be scanned for missing patches.

    4. Any missing patches will be listed. Click "Install" to begin the installation process.
