Individually
Guided Remediation Opportunity (IGRO)
The Individually Guided Remediation
Opportunity (IGRO) program is designed to address
the learning needs and skills development of the
registered nurse (RN) who wishes to return to
clinical practice. It is a service provided by
the Faculty Development Department of the LSUHSC
School of Nursing.
Prior to entry into the organized
program of study, the IGRO applicant will meet
with a LSUHSC School of Nursing faculty member
for an interview and content assessment. The applicant
and the instructor will plan and contract for
a course of study based on the individual's specific
career goals. Included in this course of study
is a mutually agreed upon time frame.
In keeping with the philosophy
of the LSUHSC School of Nursing, this learning
opportunity is a planned and organized experience
which will augment knowledge, skills and attitudes
in preparation for the learner to return to the
practice of nursing. Faculty will act as facilitators
in IGRO and focus in identifying media and content
while the learner is responsible for his/her own
learning. This means the learner will actively
participate in establishing specific goals and
learning methods as well as be self directed in
scheduling appointments and adhering to time guidelines.
The Individually Guided Remediation
Opportunity program in not intended to prepare
graduates for the RN-NCLEX, therefore the successful
completion of IGRO will not guarantee the successful
completion the RN-NCLEX. Graduates of nursing
education programs who seek that type of assistance
will be referred to one of the many state board
preparation courses that are available in the
community several times a year.
Since IGRO is a remediation
program, no contract hours for continuing education
are offered. If you are interested in continuing
education offerings go to the Continuing Education
Web Page.
An initial, one time, non-refundable
fee of $80.00 will be charged for the interview
and assessment. Additional fees are based on individual
modules and on the estimated one-to-one faculty
time required to complete the module. Fees can
be paid at the beginning of the course or on a
per module basis at the beginning of each module.
