Nurse Anesthesia

Admission Criteria

  1. Official transcripts from a regionally accredited college or university documenting the award of a BSN or BSN equivalent.* All previous undergraduate and graduate transcripts must be submitted. The nursing degree must be earned from an accredited nursing program.

  2. A grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all undergraduate and graduate course work reflected on transcripts.

    If an applicant has attended a previous nursing program without degree conferral, a letter of academic good standing must be provided from that school of nursing.

  3. Official scores for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) of 300 (or higher) when combining the verbal and quantitative scores on the 130-170 score scale are required within the last five (5) years. Writing score must be a 3.0 or higher.

  4. A minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for all applicants who have English as a second language or who are not graduates of programs in the United States.

  5. Three references in support of graduate admission application as specified by the program.

  6. Clinical nursing experience as specified by the concentration.

  7. A current unencumbered license to practice nursing in any state with eligibility for licensure in Louisiana.

  8. Successful completion of the interview process.

*BSN equivalent does not meet admission requirement without conferral of a Master's degree.

Other requirements

  1. Minimum of (1) one year, full-time, critical care experience within the previous two (2) years at the time of applying.

  2. Three letters of references should include at least one from a peer and another from a current supervisor.

  3. A completed Nurse Anesthesia Practice Survey Form.

  4. (BLS) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider

  5. (ACLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support for Healthcare Provider

  6. (PALS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support for Healthcare Provider
