Evaluation Instruments

The policies and procedures outlined below apply to the following circumstances:

  1. Changes to existing evaluation instruments
  2. Implementing new evaluations

The LSUHSC School of Nursing Evaluation Committee is a standing committee comprised of faculty and staff of the SON. The committee is chaired by a faculty member, and membership includes the faculty and staff of the Office of Nursing Research and Evaluation.

Committee responsibilities:

  • Reviewing existing evaluation activities within the SON and approving changes in accordance with the SON Systemic Evaluation Plan.
  • Reviewing and approving any new evaluation activities that would impact the SON Systemic Evaluation Plan as undertaken by faculty or staff of the SON.
  • Assessing the reliability and validity of evaluation instruments.

Purpose

To ensure the reliability and validity of research instruments and their applicability to the SON Systemic Evaluation Plan.

Policy

Any evaluation instruments (surveys, questionnaires, etc.) proposed to be administered by a faculty member in the name of the LSUHSC or under any of its auspices must be reviewed and approved by the Evaluation Committee. This includes any new evaluations to be administered internally or externally.

Procedure

  1. Once it is determined that an evaluation instrument will be used, the instrument must be submitted to the Office of Nursing Research and Evaluation and to the chair of the Evaluation committee for review and approval. Since the committee meets once per month, it is advised that the requestor insure that the instrument review request be placed on the committee agenda in sufficient time that the instrument can be used as needed.
  2. In the case that a faculty member wishes to administer an evaluation and does not possess an appropriate instrument, the Office of Nursing Research and Evaluation can assist in finding an instrument. All requests for changes (additions or deletions) to an existing evaluation instrument must be submitted to the Office of Nursing Research and Evaluation personnel and to the chair of the Evaluation committee for review and approval. The request must include a justification for the change.
