Bio

Lucretia M Wiltz-James, DNP, APRN, FNP-C

Dr. Lucretia Wiltz-James is the Family Nurse Practitioner Program Coordinator at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, School of Nursing. In December 1991, she received her Associate Degree of Applied Science in Nursing from Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, in 1998. She received her Master’s in Nursing from Loyola University New Orleans with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner in May 2010. In February 2022, she graduated from Chamberlain University, receiving her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Healthcare Systems Leadership with High Distinction.

 Dr. Wiltz-James has been a Professor of Nursing at Herzing University New Orleans, in the Baccalaureate Program. She also was a clinical instructor of nursing in the LSU SON CARE Program in 2016 and a Clinical Adjunct faculty in the APRN program as Coordinator of the ANEW project in 2018.

 As a practicing clinician, Dr. James has clinical experience in Primary Care, Retail Healthcare, Emergency Medicine, and Urgent Care. As a clinical preceptor to students seeking an advanced practice degree, she believes in improving the clinical competency and confidence of those she mentors. Dr. James holds a family nurse practitioner certification with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). She is an active member of the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners (LANP). She is also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society. Dr. James has been honored as one of the Great 100 Nurses in Louisiana and recently gained certification with the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME). Dr. James has been an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated since April 2023.

 Dr. James has served in the United States Army Reserves (USAR). She was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1994 and promoted through the ranks, with her final promotion as Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) in 2016. She retired from the USAR in August 2020 after serving 28 years. LTC James held many positions, such as Company Commander, Medical Readiness Officer, Supervisor, and Lead Nurse Practitioner of the Soldier Readiness Processing Center. Her final tenured position was Commander of the 7232nd Military Support Unit. LTC James has received many awards during her service: Two Armed Forces Global War on Terrorism medals, two Overseas Ribbons of Service, seven Army Commendation medals, and five Army Achievement medals.
