- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute and Primary Care DNP concentrations approved (2017)
and initiated (2018) in collaboration with Children's Hospital of New Orleans.
- In March 2018, the Early Admission Registered Nurse (EARN) program began in partnership
with Delgado Charity School of Nursing that allows Delgado nursing students to apply
and begin LSUHSC SON RNBSN program before graduating with an ASN.
- The Diversity and Inclusivity Advisory Task Force was initiated in July 2018.
- School of Nursing inaugural magazine, LSU Nursing , launched.
- The inaugural class of the LSU Health New Orleans Hall of Fame and Outstanding Alumni
honored at the 85th Anniversary Gala, November 2018.
- School of Nursing received a $1.3 million grant from the Health Resources and Services
Administration's Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) Program to train nursing
students in ambulatory care settings to meet rural and underserved health care needs.
- Nursing Schools Almanac ranked the SON number 10 in the U.S. for 2018, number 4 among
public nursing schools and number 3 overall in the southeast region.
- School of Nursing hosted a Joanna Briggs Institute at the University of Adelaide in
South Australia Evidence-based Clinical Fellows Program Train-the-Trainer program.
- School of Nursing was awarded a Louisiana Board of Regents grant to create a mobile
application for the Cornerstone of Cultural Competency During the Disaster Cycle Program.

- The inaugural Black Historical Nurses Newsletter initiated February 2019.
- School of Nursing was named a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence for
a second time in 2019 with a designation for Creating Environments that Promote the
Pedagogical Expertise of Faculty.
- The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited the SON for 10 years, 2019
to 2029.
- Children's Hospital and the SON launch an Evidence-based Practice and Research Council.
- A $1.3 million grand was awarded by the US Health Resources and Services Administration
to train and certify registered nurses as sexual assault nurse examiners (SANE).
- The LGBT + Advocacy Program was developed to educate and increase positive attitudes
towards the LGBT + community.
- The first Joanna Briggs Institute at the University of Adelaide in South Australia
Evidence-based Clinical Fellows Training was held for nurses at Children's Hospital
and University Medical Center.
- The American Nurses Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation reaccredited
the SON for four-years.
- Five Dual BSN to DNP concentrations were approved and initiated in 2019: Adult Gerontology
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) and Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist
(AGCNS), AGACNP and Primary Care Family Nurse Practitioner (PCFNP), PCFNP and Psychiatric
Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Acute Care
(PNP-AC) and AGACNP, and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care (PNP-PC) and PNP-AC.
- Six post-masters DNP curricula to add a new APRN role and population to current APRN
certification were approved and initiated in 2019; AGACNP, AGPCNP, PCFNP, PMHNP, PNP-AC,
and PNP-PC.
- Three DNP advanced Specialty elective courses were approved and implemented in 2019,
Advanced Emergency, Advanced Oncology and Advanced Nephrology.

- The SON became a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council an international
organization that advanced honors education such as our Mentoring Undergraduate Students
for Excellence in Scholarship (MUSES).
- SON classes converted to remote learning environment during the COVID pandemic, March

- SON signed an Academic Practice Partnership Charter with Louisiana Children's Medical
Group (LCMC), May 2020.
