Troubleshooting: Nasal Cannula Equipment1

  1. Important to have correct nasal cannula placement and correct cannula selection (oral verses nasal breathing).
    • Properly position cannula directly under nose.
    • Reposition cannula as needed.
    • Nasal/oral cannula must match patient breathing pattern (e.g. nasal breathing pattern vs. oral breathing pattern).
       
  2. Respond to monitoring alarms and rule/out nasal cannula issues.
     
  3. Follow hospital protocols.
