Manual Priming With a Pressure Sensing Disc

To manually prime an administration set with a pressure sensing disc:

1. Ensure administration set is not connected to patient and that device is as close to level of patient as possible (patient should be in line with CHANNEL SELECT key on Alaris® Syringe module).
2. Hold pressure sensing disc between two fingers and invert disc so patient side is up.
3. Slowly prime set while gently massaging disc to ensure all air is expelled. Note that disc must remain inverted only until all air is expelled. Continue to gently massage disc to ensure it is not over- or under-filled.
4. When priming is complete and no air exists, clamp set.
5. Load syringe and pressure sensing disc.
6. Complete programming selected infusion and unclamp set.
7. Start infusion and then attach set to patient.

Note: Starting the infusion before attaching set to patient will minimize any potential bolus that could be released from pressure built up in the set due to normal priming and syringe loading.
