Curriculum Vitae


Dr. Abby McNeil is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master’s in Psychiatric Nursing and Nursing Education, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Southern Mississippi. 

Dr. McNeil is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.  She currently serves as the Coordinator of BSN- DNP Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program at LSUHSC.  She practices psychiatric mental health via telemedicine in a community based mental health clinic.

Dr. McNeil has served as PMHNP Program Director for the past six years. She has 15 years of experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate level nursing students and over 20 years of experience as an advanced practice nurse.  She has served as a committee member on Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Inquiry Projects and Honors Thesis. 

Dr. McNeil’s research interests include secondary traumatic stress, mental health professionals who work with sexually abused children, academic practice partnerships, substance abuse screening, integrated healthcare and nurse practitioner readiness to practice.  Dr. McNeil served as the program manager for a HRSA grant- Academic Practice Partnership to Enhance Nurse Practitioner Readiness to Practice in an Integrated Care Model.  She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Lambda Gamma Chapter, American Psychiatric Nurses Association, American Nurses Association and National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties.
