Bio
Andrew Pitt DNP, CRNA is a part time instructor in the Nurse Anesthesia Program and has held that position since 2008. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Louisiana State University Medical Center in 1988, a Master of Science degree in Nurse Anesthesiology from Charity Hospital/Xavier University School of Nurse Anesthesiology in 1992, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in 2013. Dr. Pitt is certified by the National Board for the Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists. He is also certified in basic life support, advanced life support and pediatric advanced life support by The American Heart Association.
Dr. Pitt teaches in the Principles of Anesthesia Course and the Nurse Anesthesia Practicum courses. He serves as a faculty advisor for nurse anesthesia students and he serves on DNP Project Teams. Dr. Pitt is also the Chief Nurse Anesthetist at Children’s Hospital New Orleans and has extensive experience in pediatric anesthesia. Dr. Pitt’s scholarship interests include pediatric anesthesia with an emphasis on patient safety and satisfaction.
Dr. Pitt served as a Nurse Anesthetist and as a United States Navy lieutenant commander from 1996 to 2000 in the United States Navy Reserve and received the Outstanding Service Medal from the Uniformed Services University Health Services of the Department of Defense. He has participated in numerous international surgical mission trips to Guatemala. Dr. Pitt was named a Great 100 Nurse in Louisiana in 2012 and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Epsilon Nu Honor Society, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and the Louisiana Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Dr. Pitt has been an invited speaker at local, state and national professional conferences.
