Research Interests

Maternal and newborn health, newborn congenital and prematurity complications, pediatric and neonatal critical care, concussions in the pediatric special needs population, labor & delivery, breastfeeding, and active teaching and learning techniques


Katherine Deering is an Instructor of Clinical Nursing at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans School of Nursing.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marquette University in 2005, her Masters of Science in Nursing in Nursing Education from Chamberlain College of Nursing in 2016, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Healthcare Systems Leadership from Chamberlain University in 2020. Dr. Deering received certification as a Certified Pediatric Nurse in 2007 and as a Certified Nurse Educator in 2018. 

Dr. Deering serves as course faculty for Women's Health in the traditional and CARE programs, and Nursing Research in the RN-BSN program, as well as serving as a faculty advisor to students.

Dr. Deering has clinical experience in neonatal intensive care, pediatric intensive care, general pediatrics, home and school pediatrics, labor and delivery, postpartum and antepartum nursing as both a staff nurse and charge nurse in the greater Chicagoland area.  

Dr. Deering is a member of the Phi Pi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing as well as a member of the National League for Nursing.

Dr. Deering has received honors including being a recipient of the LSUHSC School of Nursing Teaching Excellence Award, as well as having been nominated for both a DAISY faculty award and a DAISY award.
