Bio

Rodmistrial Allen has served as an instructor at Louisiana State University Health New Orleans School of Nursing (LSU HNO SON) for the past nine years. With nearly a decade of clinical nursing experience, she brings a strong background in medical-surgical nursing, cardiac critical care, neuroendocrine oncology, and telemetry. Dr. Allen earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Louisiana Health Sciences Center in 2012. After two years of clinical practice, she pursued and completed a Master of Science in Nursing Education, followed by a Ph.D. in Nursing Education and Nursing Administration in 2021.

Her research interests focus on innovative teaching and learning strategies that support the transition of theoretical knowledge into clinical application, particularly from the perspectives of traditional and adult learners. She conducted a research study at two southern-based nursing schools, and her findings were expounded upon in her dissertation.

Dr. Allen has held numerous leadership and service roles within the School of Nursing, including Chairperson of the Academic Undergraduate Council, voting member of the Admissions, Progression, and Graduation (AP&G) Committee, Undergraduate Technology Committee member, Faculty Senate Representative for the School of Nursing, and Curriculum and Student Life Committee member. She has also served as an Academic Advisor for Career Alternative RN Education and as an Advisor for Sophomore II nursing students in the Student Government Association. Externally, she is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, American Nurses Association, the New Orleans District Nurses Association (NODNA), and Rho Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., a professional nursing sorority. Additionally, she contributes to the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Epsilon Nu-at-Large Chapter) as an Awards Committee member. In academia, Dr. Allen has served as Course Coordinator for Fundamentals of Nursing Practice (Theory, Practicum, and Simulation Lab), Health Assessment for RN-BSN students (Theory and Lab), and as a Clinical Instructor for the Registered Nurse Refresher Program (RNRP). She actively contributes to the Competency-Based Education (CBE) Task Force, the Medication Safety Practice Task Force in collaboration with Academic Success, serves as a preceptor for the Nurse Educator concentration, and orients faculty into the nursing academia role.  

Dr. Allen has received numerous honors and recognitions for her dedication to nursing education and service, including the LSU HNO SON Five-Year Service Award, the Allen A. Copping Award for Teaching Excellence, the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurse Educators, recognition as a 2018 Great 100 Nurse Honoree of Louisiana, the ROAR Recognition for alignment with LSU's core values, the Faculty Recognition Award sponsored by Elsevier, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the American Nurses Association Ethics Committee.

Her clinical affiliations include Ochsner Main Campus, Ochsner-Kenner, and University Medical Center. Dr. Allen remains deeply committed to advancing patient safety, delivering quality patient care, and exploring innovative teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of nursing students. She is passionate about moving the nursing profession forward through excellence in education, research, and service.
