Bio

Dr. Rick Zimmerman is the Associate Dean for Nursing Research, Scholarship and Science at Louisiana State University Health New Orleans School of Nursing. He received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Stanford University and a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin.

Dr. Rick S. Zimmerman was previously Professor and Associate Dean for Research in the College of Nursing at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. He received 10 NIH grants totaling nearly 20 million dollars in the last 20 years, most focusing on HIV, STD, and teen pregnancy prevention in adolescents and young adults. Dr. Zimmerman has served as principal investigator on HIV prevention research projects in Ethiopia, Thailand, India, South Africa and in both rural and urban US locations.  He has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 20 book chapters, and has co-edited two books. His current research interests and publication areas include HIV and teen pregnancy preventive interventions, theories/models of health behavior change, global health, and methods for improving validity of self-reports of sensitive behaviors.
