Title: Managing Mental Illness with the Older Adult

Activity Description/Outcome: This learning activity was designed to increase the knowledge of nurses caring for older adults with mental illness in all health care settings. The older adult population is the fastest growing age group. Nurses frequently care for patients in this population in all types of settings. Considerations in managing mental illnesses with the older adult will be provided, as well as pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions for common psychiatric disorders in the older adult. The class will provide an interactive learning environment for the lecture and discussion of pathophysiology, health assessment, and evidence-based recommendations and best practice measures to improve nursing care and patient outcomes for older patients with mental illness.

Target Audience: Registered Nurses who care for patients in any setting

Participants will earn 3.0 contact hours of continuing nursing education.
