Dean's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Internship Program (D²EI²)

The Dean's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Internship (D²EI²) is a new initiative created by the School of Nursing Administrative Council to actively support and engage our nursing school's incremental, continuous, and comprehensive progress toward a vibrant culture and climate that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are pleased to announce the D²EI² Program, which will provide selected LSU Health Sciences Center-New Orleans School of Nursing undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to serve for one (1) or more semester(s) as a Dean's DEI Intern. The competitive process will invite applications from committed students in the school of nursing to identify and complete a meaningful project or assignment directly related to building a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion based on the School of Nursing strategic map and Action Plan for DEI.

At a minimum, each participating student will define their project with specific goals for the project aligned to the nursing school strategic map and DEI Action plan. The D²EI² Program Application should include the following:

  1. Student resume or cv
  2. Title of Project
  3. Description of Project
  4. Project Goals, Objectives, and Activities with projected timeline
  5. Alignment to School of Nursing Strategic Map and DEI Action Plan
  6. Budget Request
  7. Plan to Disseminate Project Experience

Intern cohorts will be expected to share their experiences, exchange ideas, ask questions of themselves and one another, and participating students will pledge to foster these exchanges. The Interns will be mentored by the Deans DEI Interns Advisory Council, which will report directly to the School of Nursing Dean. Each student will be assigned a mentor. Interns and mentors will meet at least twice a year. It is an expectation that Interns will also serve as ambassadors for diversity, equity, and inclusion for the nursing school and will be future champions of the diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces and communities they will inhabit and enhance after graduation.

The Deans DEI Interns Advisory Council will be appointed by the Dean on a bi-annual basis. The Deans DEI Interns Advisory Council will review each D²EI² applicant in a competitive selection process.

Upon successful completion of the D²EI² Program each student's project will be highlighted in the LSU Magazine, via School of Nursing social media outlets, and receive a certificate of recognition upon graduation. Successful completion is characterized as development and execution of a DEI project.
