Toni Cascio is the Coordinator of Quality Improvement and Faculty Development at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing. She holds the rank of Instructor. Ms. Cascio received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Nursing from Louisiana State University Medical Center.
Ms. Cascio is the Chairperson of the Quality Enhancement Committee, a faculty committee charged with the creation and implementation of a mission-driven quality improvement plan as well as the processes and tools that support academic and operational decisions. She is the Administrator for E*Value, a cloud-based application used by students and faculty, and for EBI, a web-enabled survey system used to capture student feedback. Ms. Cascio represents the School of Nursing on an organization-wide team focused on reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS COC). She is the author of a guideline that explains the organization’s systematic approach to institutional effectiveness. Ms. Cascio is a guest lecturer in the areas of quality improvement and staff development for masters and doctoral level courses.
Ms. Cascio has broad experience in clinical practice, staff development, and management. Her primary clinical focus is on care of critically ill adults experiencing cardiovascular disease, and her specialty is electrocardiography. She created and taught in several critical care courses in the Greater New Orleans area; was a featured speaker at numerous workshops; and taught in BLS and ACLS Provider/Instructor Courses in the Greater New Orleans area. As a CNS, Ms. Cascio provided clinical and educational leadership for multiple inpatient units, primarily those focusing on care of critically ill adults. She also provided director-level administrative leadership for diverse departments and assumed a leadership role in the accreditation process for several healthcare organizations.
Ms. Cascio’s research interests and publication areas include quality improvement, staff development, cardiovascular disease, and electrocardiography. She provided support to grant team leaders on a HRSA funded nurse-managed clinic by creating a quality improvement plan to support the clinic’s quality initiatives. She is co-author of a book on electro-cardiography and the author of textbook chapters devoted to electrocardiography, heart failure, and resuscitation.
Ms. Cascio has received a Nightingale Award as Mentor of the Year and was nominated for a Nightingale Award in the Hall of Fame category. She was recognized as a Great 100 Nurse in Louisiana and received a mentorship award from the Greater New Orleans Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She has also received awards from a local healthcare organization in recognition of her teaching and leadership skills.
