Criteria Instructions for Completion
  1. Unencumbered RN license Unencumbered licensure in LA.
  2. Current BLS certification Must be via American Heart Association.
  3. GPA > 3.0 On a 4.0 scale. For all undergraduate or graduate course work.
  4. GRE score > 300; writing score > 3.0 Must have been completed in the last 5 years. Must have a 300 or better when combining the verbal and quantitative scores on the 130-170 score scale. The GRE official transcript must be sent to LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing (code 6353).
  5. TOEFL > 550 (paper-based) or 79 (Internet) The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for all applicants who have English as a second language or who are not graduates of programs in the United States. Input scores into the NursingCAS application.
  6. 3 Letters of Recommendation In support of your Graduate Admission Application. Must be from (1) a peer, (2) a Nurse Practitioner, & (3) a nursing Supervisor. The reference information will be requested within the NursingCAS application.
  7. Official transcripts+ Must be from a regionally accredited college or university documenting the award of a BSN or BSN equivalent*. All previous undergraduate and graduate official transcripts must be submitted. All nursing course credit earned must be from a specialized nursing accredited program. Official transcripts must be submitted through the on-line NursingCAS application. Input all coursework and grades into the NursingCAS application.
  8. Complete application per NursingCAS by deadline. Go to and search for LSUHSC School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA. If in need of technology support, please contact the NursingCAS support staff by email or phone 617-612-2880.
  9. Successful completion of a structured interview Face to face interview that will be scheduled upon the completion of the application after the deadline. Applicants will be notified by email.

*A BSN equivalent does not meet admission requirement without the conferral of a Master’s degree.
