2017 LASN Convention

This past weekend the SNA proudly represented the LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing at the Louisiana Association of Student Nurses (LASN) Annual Convention in Baton Rouge, LA.

The following students attended: Nicole Koppi, Jaymalisa Whatley, Kelly Derise, Elizabeth Carter, Morgan Buras, Maria Colina, Lena Nguyen, and Banaz Hejazi. SNA students that also attended and represented the LASN Executive Board as Officers are: Daniel Lacy, Lauryn Richard and Andrew Giardina.

Several awards were won during the convention:

  • Nicole Koppi won “Student Nurse of the State” award and scholarship.
  • Katelyn Freyou (May graduate) was recognized as a LASN Honorary Member, the most prestigious award given by LASN.
  • The SNA won the “Best News Letter Article” award for the article written by Nicole Koppi. The article highlighted two of our community service projects as well as attendance at last year’s NSNA convention.
  • The SNA also won “Best Community Outreach” award for the community service project, “Delivering Hope NOLA”. This is a community organization that provides support to parents that have babies in one of the various Neonatal Intensive Care Units in and around the city of New Orleans. Students donated items and helped assemble gift bags that they delivered to the NICU units across town.

We are also very proud of our students that were elected to serve on the LASN Executive Board for the 2017-2018 term:

  • Daniel Lacy, CARE XVI, re-elected as IT Director
  • Lauryn Richard, CARE XVI, elected as Vice-President; previously served as Breakthrough to Nursing Director
  • Banaz Hejazi, CARE XVI, elected as Region IV Director
  • Christina Russell served on the LASN Board as Fundraising Coordinator
