Current Students

Student Health Requirements

Students are responsible for maintaining current mandatory requirements throughout enrollment.  All students must submit Student Health mandatory requirement information to the Student Health Portal, and ensure the requirements are updated through each semester of enrollment.

Health Requirements for Nursing Students

Varicella titer within the past 5 years.
Varicella Zoster Virus Antibody IgG

If your Varicella titer is negative, you must repeat the Varicella vaccine series (2 vaccines). You must have the first vaccine in the series before you submit your information to the Student Health Portal. The second vaccine can be submitted as an update once received.   

Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR) titer within the past 5 years.
Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) Antibodies (IgG) Panel

If one of your MMR titers is negative, you must receive an MMR booster. If two or more of your MMR titers is negative, you must repeat the MMR vaccine series (2 vaccines). You must have the first vaccine in the series before you submit your information to the Student Health Portal. The second vaccine can be submitted as an update once received.

Hepatitis B titer within the past 5 years.
Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (HBsAb)

If your Hepatitis B titer is negative, you must receive either a Hepatitis B Booster or repeat the Hepatitis B vaccine series (2 doses of Heplisav-B or 3 doses of Engerix-B, Recombivax, or Twinrix). You must have the booster or first vaccine in the series before you submit your information to the Student Health Portal. Subsequent vaccines can be submitted as an update once received.
Tuberculosis (TB) skin test or blood test within the past year. 

If screening is positive:

  • complete the TB Screen for Positive TB Test Form found on the Student Health website.
  • Chest x-ray is required.
  • INH therapy is strongly encouraged for latent TB for 9 months.
  • Treatment of active TB is required.
Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) vaccination within the past 10 years. 
Meningitis/Meningococcal vaccination within the past 10 years. 
Flu vaccination is required annually during flu season (Aug 31 – March 31). A declination form is required annually if not receiving the vaccine and you will be required to wear a mask in the clinical facility. 
COVID vaccination is not required by LSUHSC. However, the initial COVID vaccination series is required by some of our clinical facilities. If you do not provide COVID vaccination information, you may be required to wear a mask in the clinical facility. 

Note: When you submit your information to the Student Health Portal, you must upload documentation of all items reported -medical records, lab results, vaccine records. This documentation must include your full name (first and last name) and your date of birth.

6. Click My Forms and then Student Health.  Enter the required information for each immunization.

Student Health forms, including vaccine declination forms, can be found on the LSUHSC New Orleans Student Health website under 'Forms/Records.'
