Bio

Laurie S. Finger is an Adjunct Faculty member in the Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program at LSUNO School of Nursing. Mrs. Finger graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1984, with a diploma in nursing. She completed her BSN from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1992, and her first Master of Nursing from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in 2001 where she received the Joyce Travelbee Award for Clinical Excellence. She obtained her second Master of Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2009 where she was awarded a Pediatric Pulmonary Center Traineeship.

Mrs. Finger is an Advanced Practice Nurse, certified as both a Clinical Nurse Specialist and a Nurse Practitioner. She was certified as a Pediatric Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist (CCNS-P) in 2003 and an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) in 2010. She holds Basic Life Support and Pediatric Life Support certifications and is a Pediatric End-of-Life Educator.

She has 33 years’ experience in Pediatric nursing and has held a variety of positions. Twenty-two years of her career was spent at Tulane Medical Center/ Tulane Hospital for Children in New Orleans as a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse, Preceptor, Charge Nurse, Transport Team member, Transport Team Coordinator, and Nurse Manager. She has been the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for the Pediatric Heart Center, as well as the CNS for the PICU/NICU and Pediatric Unit and she was a Clinical Manager, supervising the Nurse Clinicians and the Neonatal Nurse Practitioners.

Mrs. Finger was a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for several years at Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Alexandria. Most recently she is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for over 4 years at Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.

She has published several book chapters in the AACN Procedure Manual for Pediatric Acute and Critical Care and created several sections for the ACCNS-P Certification Review Online Course.  She also edited several chapters in the Elsevier’s online Procedure Manual for Pediatrics.
