Loading the PCA Administration Set
Before loading the syringe, prepare the administration set using the
following procedure.
- Select a PCA administration set with an anti-siphon valve or with
an anti-siphon valve and a Y-connector with backcheck valve.
- Attach the upper luer-lock fitting of the set to the syringe tip.
- Prime per hospital protocol.
- After the set is fully primed, clamp the tubing to prevent inadvertent
or uncontrolled flow.
- Ensure that there is no air in the syringe or PCA set.
Note: Priming volume and length are listed on the
set packaging.
