Using the SmartSite® positive bolus needle-free valve
1. Prepare Valve
- Prior to every access, always swab the top of the SmartSite® positive
bolus needle-free valve port with a sterile 70% isopropyl alcohol
wipe (1-2 seconds) and allow to dry (approximately
30 seconds). Use of proper aseptic technique
helps to reduce the possibility of contamination.
- For multiple syringes, swab prior to each syringe access.
2. Attach Syringe
- Insert the syringe tip into the SmartSite® positive bolus needle-free
valve.
- If syringe has a luer-lock
collar, turn syringe clockwise to secure the connection.
- If syringe
has a slip luer, insert and rotate 1/4 turn to secure the
connection. Inject or aspirate fluid. Do not leave slip luer syringes
unattended.
Important: Do not use needles or blunt cannulas to
access the SmartSite® positive bolus needle-free valve.
