About Us

Vision

The LSUHSC School of Nursing Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner concentration produces local, national, and international leaders and expert advanced practice nurses in the adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner role.

Mission

In addition to the mission of the School of Nursing and the LSU Health Sciences Center, the mission of the AGPCNP program is to:

  • Prepare graduates for autonomous evidence-based AGPCNP practice in a variety of primary care settings.

  • Maintain a quality program that meets national accreditation and state regulatory standards.

  • Prepare graduates to attain certification as AGPCNPs.

  • Promote advanced leadership through mentoring and professional socialization.

Philosophy

Consistent with the beliefs expressed in the philosophy of the School of Nursing, the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) Concentration faculty believes:

AGPCNP practice is concerned with health promotion, the prevention and management of disease states, as well as relieving suffering in adults (including older adolescents and emancipated minors) and older adults. The AGPCNP faculty believes the purpose of nursing is to empower individuals, families, groups, and communities to achieve their highest levels of self-care competence.

Advanced practice nursing accomplishes these goals through a blend of health care services, advanced clinical expertise, and holistic caring practices. The AGPCNP faculty believes that advanced practice nursing care addresses the environments that impact individuals’ responses to illness and health care. Advanced practice nursing integrates interprofessional collaboration with expert nursing skills to promote wellness and healing within a caring environment and a health care system that facilitates care for patients and especially underserved populations.

The School of Nursing's Core Values guide the AGPCNP faculty's teaching and practice.  The curricula are designed to prepare the Doctor of Nursing Practice student to meet the professional standards that define the role of the AGPCNP.
