Registration Information for Undergraduate Students

The School of Nursing will be offering BLS Skills Checkoff courses for undergraduate students in November and December. The next round of courses for undergraduate students will be in June and July of 2025.

All BLS Certifications MUST be current for an entire semester. Students are not permitted to renew after the semester starts.

All students must have BLS Provider certification from the American Heart Association. Completion of other courses (eg, Heartsaver or First Aid courses offered by the American Red Cross) are not accepted.

Please follow the instructions below. Completion of the online component and the skills checkoff are both required for BLS certification.

Instructions:

  • Step 1. Complete the online portion, HeartCode BLS (2020 Guidelines), at https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-bls . You will pay the AHA directly for this portion of the course. Please complete this portion before the day of your BLS Skills Checkoff course as it will take a couple of hours to complete.

  • Step 2. Print your completion certificate to bring to class with you. If you would like to email your completion certificate as opposed to printing and bringing it the day of class, please email it to nsgconted@lsuhsc.edu before your scheduled class time. The BLS Skills Checkoff is not allowed without the completion certificate.

  • Step 3. Please schedule the date and time you would like to attend the BLS Skills Checkoff course from the course dates listed below using this link: NCPD/AHA/BLS. The average class time is 1-1.5 hours. If you schedule a class and then cancel or are a no-show, there will be a re-scheduling fee of $20.
  • Step 4. In the BLS Skills Checkoff course, you will practice and test your skills using manikins and case-based scenarios. BLS Provider cards are issued by email within 24 hours of successful completion of the required skills.

BLS Skills Checkoff Cost: $35.00 - Check, money order, or credit card (no cash) payable to: LSUHNO School of Nursing. Note that this is a separate payment from the one made to the AHA for the online portion of the course. If you schedule a class and then cancel or are a no-show, there will be a re-scheduling fee of $20.

Payment (check, money order, or credit card) is due by the beginning of the skills class.

If you choose to pay by credit card, payment must be submitted 24 hours in advance using the link below:
https://bls-checkoff.eventbrite.com (with Eventbrite service fee, the total is $38.49).
