Faculty Practice

Service

Faculty engage in service activities that strengthen the community and nursing profession. Examples of service activities include participation on SON and/or HSC committees and task forces, participation in events sponsored by community groups/organizations, and assumption of leadership roles in professional nursing organizations and associations that have local, national or international impact.

Most recently, School of Nursing faculty and students met community needs during the pandemic by volunteering at COVID-19 testing locations throughout the metropolitan area and worked diligently to establish, implement and staff a COVID-19 vaccination clinic. Nurse practitioner students volunteered at shelters in the New Orleans area following Hurricane Ida. Faculty support undergraduate student volunteer activities at numerous community events such as community health screenings and service at medical tents during racing events (e.g. 5K to Marathons) and other community events. These are but a few examples of faculty and student service.
