Manual Priming Without a Pressure Sensing Disc

To manually prime an administration set without a pressure sensing disc:

1. Ensure administration set is not connected to patient and that device is as close to level of patient as possible (patient should be in line with CHANNEL SELECT key on Alaris® Syringe module).
2. Manually prime (per hospital protocol).
3. When priming is complete and no air exists, clamp set.
4. Load syringe.
5. Complete programming infusion and unclamp set.
6. Start infusion and then attach set to patient.

Note: Starting the infusion before attaching set to patient will minimize any potential bolus that could be released from pressure built up in the set due to normal priming and syringe loading.
