Admission Criteria

The LSU Health New Orleans (LSUHNO) School of Nursing participates in a Centralized Application Service for Nursing Programs (NursingCAS). All applicants will apply online using the NursingCAS application. To learn more about the NursingCAS application process, please visit the NursingCAS web site at www.nursingcas.org

  1. Official transcripts from a regionally accredited college or university documenting the award of a BSN or BSN equivalent.* All previous undergraduate and graduate transcripts must be submitted. All nursing course credits earned must be from a specialized nursing accredited program. *BSN equivalent does not meet admission requirement without conferral of a Master's degree.
    All transcripts from programs outside of the United States must be evaluated by an accredited credentialing evaluation service. LSUHNO School of Nursing recommends the following resources:

    Official transcripts must be submitted through the on-line NursingCAS application. You will be responsible for inputting all coursework.

  2. Grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all undergraduate and graduate course work reflected on transcripts.

  3. A minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 79-80 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for all applicants who have English as a second language or who are not graduates of programs in the United States. Input TOEFL scores within NursingCAS application.

  4. Three references in support of graduate admission application must be submitted by the application deadline. The reference information will be requested within the NursingCAS application.

  5. Clinical nursing experience as specified by the concentration.

  6. A current unencumbered license to practice nursing in any state with eligibility for licensure in Louisiana.

  7. Successful completion of the interview process.

Other requirements (PM-DNP in same role and population as master's degree)

Summer Application Deadline is March 1 (same role and population as master's degree)
Fall Application Deadline is June 1 (same role and population as master's degree)

  1. A $100.00 application fee is required at the time of application submittal. The applicant will receive a follow-up email from the LSUHNO School of Nursing Office of Student Services/Affairs with further directions on submitting the application fee.

  2. One example of a published or unpublished scholarly paper written.

  3. Three letters of references should include at least one from a peer and another from a current supervisor.

  4. A completed Verification of Graduate Practicum Hours Form.

  5. Current Resume

  6. (BLS) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider

  7. Additional requirements by specialty may include:

    • (ACLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support for Healthcare Provider

    • (PALS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support for Healthcare Provider

    • (NRP) Neonatal Resuscitation Program

Other requirements (PM-DNP to add a new APRN role or population to current certification)

The Application Deadline is March 1 (to add a new APRN role or population).

In addition to the requirements for the chosen APRN concentration (BSN-DNP admission criteria), students must also:

  1. Have an unencumbered Louisiana RN and APRN license;

  2. Have national APRN board certification; and

  3. 1 year of APRN experience (Minimum of one year, full-time, NP experience within the previous year of the time of application to the program).

  4. A $100.00 application fee is required at the time of application submittal. The applicant will receive a follow-up email from the LSUHNO School of Nursing Office of Student Services/Affairs with further directions on submitting the application fee.

  5. One example of a published or unpublished scholarly paper written.

  6. Three letters of references should include at least one from a peer and another from a current supervisor.
