Early Admission Registered Nurse (EARN) Program

What is the EARN Program?

The Early Admission Registered Nurse (EARN) program is a partnership between Delgado Community College Charity School of Nursing (DCCCSN) and LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing (LSUHNO SON). The EARN program allows DCCCSN students to begin LSUHNO SON RN to BSN courses while enrolled in their second semester at DCCCSN.

 

When do I apply?

Current DCCCSN students may apply during their first semester at DCCCSN. If accepted into the EARN program, an applicant will be provisionally admitted.

How long is the EARN program?

DCCCSN students who start in the EARN program can begin taking non-clinical RN to BSN courses at LSUHNO SON. Upon completion of the ADN program, students can complete the remaining courses at LSUHNOSON in two semesters (either Spring/Summer or Summer/Fall).

Curriculum Plan:

EARN students can take one course at LSUHNO SON each semester (see below for the list of course options). If a student aims to take more than one course, Dr. Jennifer Manning; the RN to BSN Program Director must be emailed and approve this request.

**Students can only take the last three courses after graduating from the ADN program **

How does financial aid work for EARN students?

Students admitted into EARN will notify LSUHNO Financial Aid of added coursework. Students will be responsible for paying LSUHNO SON directly for the course taken in the EARN Program each semester. EARN students are not eligible for financial aid at LSUHNO while receiving financial aid at DCCCSN.

What are the prerequisite courses needed?

The following prerequisites are required for EARN students:

**LSUHNO SON accepts transfer credits from accredited colleges and universities.

• Humanities courses can be any Literature, Foreign Language, History, Communications, Philosophy, Classical Studies, and Religious Studies.
• Fine Arts courses can be Music, Visual Arts, Applied Arts, Theatre, and Dance

How to apply:

Step 1: Transcript Review and Interview

The first step is to send Dr. Jennifer Manning; RN to BSN Program Director a copy of your transcripts. Dr. Manning will complete a transcript review to determine if you have all of your prerequisite courses. If you need to take any prerequisites courses, Dr. Manning will work with applicants to ensure taking the correct courses which will transfer into LSUHSNO SON RN to BSN Program. Following the transcript review, Dr. Manning will schedule a virtual meeting to discuss the EARN program and the next steps in completing the application process.

Step 2: Complete Online LSUHSC SON Application:

After the transcript review, EARN applicants will need to complete an online application on NursingCAS:

The student affairs office checks the application website each day. Student affairs will communicate with applicants regarding any missing application items. Applicants can email official transcripts to nsstuaffairs@lsuhsc.edu

Step 3: EARN applicant approval

The RN to BSN Program Director will send notice of EARN applicants to the Dean at DCCCSN for approval.

Step 4: Admission

Once prerequisites courses are completed or are in progress, and the application is completed online, the Program Director will bring applications to the LSUHNO SON admissions committee for acceptance. Once accepted, applicants will receive an admission email and letter with further instructions for beginning the program.

Step 5: Financial Aid Notification

The applicant, will notify the LSUHNO Financial Aid office of added coursework. The applicant will be responsible for paying LSUHNO directly for the course taken in the EARN Program each semester.
