Peer Mentoring Program

Louisiana State University Health New Orleans (LSUHNO) School of Nursing (SON) Peer to Peer Mentoring program is designed to provide support and guidance to underprepared, prepared, and high-achieving students in pursuit of their academic goals by providing socialization into the academic setting.

Goal

The primary goal of the Peer Mentoring program is to provide an opportunity for nursing students to gain support from their peers in order to assist with their academic and socialization transition in an academic health science center.

 

 

Expectations of the Mentor:

  • Attend Peer Mentor Training
  • Assist new students in making a healthy transition to LSUHNO SON
  • Contact your mentee periodically throughout the semester, acting as a reliable resource and referral agent and providing relevant information
  • Attend all planned activities as scheduled
  • Plan activities with mentee

Expectations of the Mentee:

  • Seek advice from a peer mentor
  • Communicate progress and concerns with the peer mentor
  • Participate in all activities with peer mentor and other mentees
  • Set goals and make decisions to achieve these goals
  • Utilize campus resources

Our Peer Mentors are:

  • Students who have finished two or more semesters
  • Have at least a 2.5 GPA
  • Knowledgeable about the LSUHNO SON Community
  • Personable, flexible, and considerate of the needs of new students
