Nurse Midwife

Nurse-Midwifery Program Philosophy

The doctoral nurse-midwife curriculum, grounded in the art and science of midwifery, prepares students to provide safe, holistic, individualized, woman and person-centered care.

The nurse-midwife DNP is prepared, through an education based on the disciplines of nursing and midwifery, to translate evidence into practice, to act as a leader and an advocate in healthcare, and to improve health outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.

The faculty believe that every individual has a right to healthcare that is ethical, compassionate, and evidence-based. All people have the right to participate in their own healthcare, have their decisions respected, and involve family members or partners in their care as desired. They believe that an educational approach that promotes professionalism, respect for patients, and high standards in healthcare is the foundation for positive change through the provision of care, participation in advocacy, and the sharing of knowledge.
