TUITION-ASSISTED LEARNING

Becoming a nurse requires dedication, passion, and the determination to succeed. The LSU-LCMC Health Scholars Program allows future nurses to focus on learning the skills and knowledge required to become an excellent practitioner without worrying about tuition and fees.


WHO ARE the LSU-LCMC HEALTH SCHOLARS?

A select group of LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing students who receive tuition, designated fees, and academic support throughout their nursing studies. Upon successful completion of their nursing education, LSU-LCMC Health Scholars receive job placement at an LCMC Health facility.


FINANCIAL SUPPORT

LSU-LCMC Health Scholars enrolled in the BSN program are eligible to receive financial support for tuition and designated fees starting the second semester of their nursing education.

LSU-LCMC Health Scholars enrolled in the Career Alternative RN Education degree program (CARE) Program may be eligible to receive financial support for tuition and fees starting immediately upon enrollment in the CARE Program. (Contact kbren1@lsuhsc.edu for more information.)

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree must have successfully completed at least one full-credit semester in the BSN program with a minimum 2.0 LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing GPA.

Applicants in the Career Alternative RN Education degree program (CARE) may be eligible to apply for their first semester. Please contact kbren1@lsuhsc.edu for more information.

Scholars must remain academically eligible and agree to the post-graduation requirements to remain Scholars.

Employees of LCMC who are enrolled in either the traditional or CARE program are eligible to apply.


REQUIREMENTS

Scholars must commit to working full-time, post-graduation, in an LCMC Health facility for a term of at least six (6) months for each semester enrolled in the LSU-LCMC Health Scholars Program.

Scholars must maintain a minimum 2.0 LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing GPA and be enrolled full-time in the LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing.


LCMC HEALTH PLACEMENT PROCESS

As an LCMC Health Scholar approaches the end of their academic journey, they will work with a member(s) of the LCMC Health recruiting and acquisition team to identify eligible full-time positions within LCMC Health. The facility is determined largely based on LCMC Health’s needs.

Scholar must remain employed full-time at LCMC Health for six (6) consecutive months for each semester the Scholars Program award was applied to the student’s account.


LSU-LCMC HEALTH SCHOLAR APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications will open mid-semester each term for the upcoming term. Students will receive notification via email when applications are open. Incoming CARE students who wish to receive funding their first semester should contact Kathy Brennan, the LSU-LCMC Health Scholars Coordinator (KBREN1@LSUHSC.edu) for more information.
